History’s Greatest Event
Five hundred years prior to Christ's coming Zechariah told how Christ would enter Jerusalem riding on a donkey; how he would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver; and how this money would be used to buy a potter's field.9
Just as these, and every other prophecy in the Old Testament section of the Bible, written hundreds of years before Christ’s first coming, fulfilled in minutest detail, we can be just as certain that all the prophecies concerning Christ’s second coming, written in the New Testament, will also be fulfilled in minutest detail.
The exact day of Jesus’s return is known only to God.10 However, God’s Word does give us some indication as to the nearness of that time.
Every eye will see him.
Jesus said, “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.”11 With today’s revolution in modern communications we are getting closer every day to seeing this prophecy fulfilled.
Furthermore God’s Word predicted, “But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase.”12 Ours is certainly a day of people going back and forth all over the world. And we are certainly living in a time of an incredible explosion of information and knowledge, especially with the computer, the Internet, and all of today’s electronic means of communication.
When Christ returns to earth, Jesus said that every eye will see him.13 TV, the Internet, and modern technology has made this possible.
Jesus is coming again. He promised He would. The angels of God promised He would. And God in His Word promised that Jesus would come again.
Christmas, Act II, may be much closer than we think. The important thing is to be ready for Christ’s return. As Jesus said, "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man [Jesus] will come at an hour when you do not expect him."14
If you are not absolutely certain that you are ready for Christ’s return and have never received God’s forgiveness, you can do so right now by praying the following prayer:
"Dear God, how can I ever thank you enough for loving me so much that you sent your Son, Jesus, to come to earth on that first Christmas. I admit and confess that I am a sinner and am sorry for all the wrongs that I have done. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me. And I invite you, Jesus, to come into my heart and life as my Lord and Savior. I commit and trust my life and way to you. Please give me the desire to be what you want me to be and to do what you want me to do. Thank you for dying for my sins, for your free pardon, for your gift of eternal life, and for hearing and answering my prayer. Amen."
