Know These Truths

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.1

I’ve often heard of Christians who walk away from the Lord because they are not sure if they really “believe”. Many of them have based their Christianity on how well life has treated them. If God is good to them, then they want to be Christians; if things are tough, then surely God is not with them so they choose to walk away. But God is gracious in His love and mercy toward us and all He really requires of His children is to know that they are loved. John 3:16 is known as the most precious verse in the Bible because it shows us how and why God loves us. All we are asked to do is “believe”! The definition of the word “believe” is: “To know something is true”.

But it is our sin that separates us from God. Our weakness for the temptations of this world are what keeps us from basking in the glory of God’s presence and enjoying the fullness of His promises. Romans 3:23 says that we have all sinned, and we have all become undeserving of His glory. But Jesus died so that we might enjoy life, and the salvation He gifted us through his sacrifice grants us eternal life! (Rom. 6:23)

And there’s more! Jesus lives! Death could not hold Him, and three days after His body was placed in the tomb, Jesus rose again! He lives today in Heaven and is preparing a place in Eternity for all who believe in Him. (John 14:2-3)

The other morning during our Bible time one of my daughters echoed the argument that most teetering Christians have, “But, no one can really know for sure, right?” The answer is, “YES”! Yes, you can know for sure; you can know that YOU ARE FORGIVEN! Accepting Jesus as your Savior is not about what you can do, but rather about having faith in what Jesus has already done. It takes recognizing that you are a sinner, believing that Jesus died for your sins, and asking for forgiveness by placing your full trust in Jesus’ work on the cross — and that it was all for you! (Rom. 10:9-10)

Being a Christian is simple and it's free — all you have to do is know that this is true, Believe!

Suggested Prayer: Dear God, I know that you are Lord of all. Help my unbelief; I lay it at your feet and ask that you forgive me. I accept your gift of salvation and long for the day I can spend eternity in your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
