The Beauty of the Lord
“One thing have I desired of the Lord, and that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple.”1
Growing up in church and attending Sunday School every week made it easy to learn all the Bible stories, but it wasn’t until I was well into my adult years that I began to understand what true worship is. King David, however, was a young man when he understood true worship and he not only desired it, but he sought after it. All he wanted was to dwell in the house of the Lord and to behold His beauty– to be in the Lord’s presence!
God’s beauty cannot be compared to earthly beauty and our finite minds cannot begin to understand it. But when we come before the Almighty with a clean heart and a pure mind, we can behold a glimpse of the unmeasurable beauty that is GOD!
He is The Almighty King!
Isaiah 28:5 says: “In that day the Lord of hosts will be a Crown of Glory, and a Diadem of Beauty to the remnant of his people.”
For those who have put their trust in God, we have the promise that we will one day see our most glorious King. Isaiah 33:17 says: “Your eyes will behold the King in His beauty...”. God’s Love, Grace, and Mercy toward us is beauty in action and His greatest show of beauty was that He gave His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. He remained beautiful despite our unloveliness.
As Easter approaches and we remember the beautiful sacrifice of our Savior, may we desire to dwell in HIS presence and behold HIS beauty all the days of our lives.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, allow me to worship you today with a clean heart and a pure mind so that I might behold your beauty. Thank you for the beautiful gift of your Son and His death on the cross so that I might receive the forgiveness of my sins and in turn become beauty for YOU. In Jesus Name, Amen.
Psalm 27:4.
