All in God’s Time
“We thank you, O God! We give thanks because you are near.
People everywhere tell of your wonderful deeds. God says, “At the time I have
planned, I will bring justice against the wicked.”1
Our lives are controlled by time. We put important events
in our calendars, try to get to bed at a certain time every night, and set our
alarms so we are not late to work in the morning. With each birthday, we
celebrate another year of life. When we were young a year seemed like an
eternity, but now that we are older, time seems to fly by! We depend on clocks
and calendars to help us keep our lives in order.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to be on time or
keeping order of our days, but it becomes a problem when we try to limit God to
our understanding of time. We expect answers to our prayers within our “reasonable
timeframe”, and measure God’s goodness based on how quickly he responds. We
pray for our world as we see sin go unpunished, while good people suffer. We begin
to doubt and question God because he is not acting according to our sense of
timing. However, God is not bound by time. The only time that can relate to God
is that he knows the “right” time for all things that happen to us or around
us. He is a good Judge and will bring justice against the wicked in His time. He
hears every prayer and cry from his children, and will answer according to His
will. He is working all things for our good!
God is near, He is always good, and His perfect time can be
trusted. When we begin to grow impatient, let us imitate the psalmist and thank
God for all of His wonderful deeds!
Suggested prayer: Dear God, thank you for the time you have
given me here on earth. Thank you for the beautiful moments I get to spend with
my family and friends. Help me live each moment to the fullest and may all I do
bring you glory. Thank you, also, that nothing goes unnoticed by you. In Your
perfect time, you will make all things new, and You alone will judge the
actions of the good and evil. Help me use my time wisely and never miss the opportunity
to share your love with others. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
1. Psalm
75:1-2 (NLT).
