Keeping Things in Perspective

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and mediate on all your mighty deeds.”1

When we face troubles in life, we often feel as if they are ginormous! We know that God said he won’t give us more than we can handle, but I know I have started to question if God really knows my human limits! If you read today’s Psalm in its entirety, you will see Asaph feeling as though God had forgotten him. He questioned if God had forgotten to be merciful and compassionate towards him. But just when these thoughts started circling in his head, he stopped himself and remembered the greatness of the Lord. The God of miracles and the One who reigns in power and majesty. The Creator of the universe who holds everything perfectly in its place is the One who holds us in his hands. If you need a reminder of how great our God is, read this:

“In 1997, the Hubble telescope took flight to give us a look through its powerful lens into places we had never known or seen before. Through this mammoth telescope, we discovered a staggering number of other galaxies out there beyond our own. Our tiny earth is just in one tiny galaxy. And our Milky Way galaxy is just a little disk-shaped spiral when compared with the expanse of other galaxies. Sure, we have our sun and moon—our little spot along with the planets that surround us. Yet the Hubble telescope revealed that we are just one of many. In other words, we aren’t quite the center of the universe we once thought we were.

In fact, scientists reported that each of the 100 billion to 200 billion galaxies they believe they have discovered has up to 100 billion stars in it.”2

That is intense! This is just one of the amazing works of art that God did. Even though it may seem that we are but a tiny speck in the middle of such a vast universe, God cares deeply for us and pays attention to every detail of our life. When you start feeling overwhelmed by the giant problems you are facing, start proclaiming the greatness of God! I assure you that those problems will start shrinking immediately. Let’s keep things in perspective and remember that we serve a God of wonders!

Suggested prayer: Dear God, sometimes my human limits don’t let me see past my problems but help me see You in the midst of them. Help me not get discouraged, but rather help me trust you for the solution. Just how the stars in the sky shine so brightly in the darkness, help my faith in you shine bright in all circumstances and be a testimony to others of your great faithfulness. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
