He is Worthy
Praise the Lord!
Praise, O servants of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord!
Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore!
From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!
The Lord is high above
all nations, and his glory above the heavens!1
Recently, my son had an assignment
from one of his university bible classes where he was to spend three hours in
silence, alone; no phones, books, music—just him and the Lord. He wasn’t even
to have his Bible with him; the point of the exercise was to be alone with his
thoughts and after 3 hours were up, he was to write down his experience. He
chose to go outdoors, in nature to be able to lessen the distractions. As you
can imagine, it was not an easy task for an 18-year-old; I can’t imagine many
adults would be able to last 3 hours. But isn’t our Lord worthy of much more
time than that? Psalm 113 proclaims God’s worthiness and our invitation to
praise Him from the rising of the sun to
its setting—ALL DAY LONG!
Upon my son’s reflection of his time with the Lord, he noted that it is
only in the quiet, being free from distractions, that we can truly hear God’s
still, small voice, and it was so powerful! Although it was not easy to be away
from his phone, he was grateful for the opportunity to be still in God’s
presence. The prophet Elijah experienced this in the Old Testament: Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the
mountain before the Lord.” And
behold, the Lord passed by, and a
great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces
before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the
wind an earthquake, but the Lord
was not in the earthquake; and after
the earthquake a fire, but the Lord
was not in the fire; and after the fire a
still small voice.2
As we near the end of Lent and
approach the celebration of the Lord’s resurrection, take some time to be alone
with the Lord. Maybe it's 5 minutes, 15 or 30; can we spare an hour or three?
During that time, consider the Lord’s worthiness. The mountains shake
before him; The demons run and flee at the mention of the name King Of Majesty!
There is no power in Hell, or any who can stand Before the power and the
presence of the Great I Am!3
Suggested Prayer: Almighty God, you are worthy to receive all honor and
praise. The earth proclaims your majesty, and I stand in awe before you! You
alone are great; only you are worthy of my worship all day long! In the quiet
of this moment, I ask that you speak to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
