The One Who Knows Our Story
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my
anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the
way everlasting.”1
Many of us have that friend who we can share anything with,
and they love us just as we are. These friends may be few and far between, but
when they come into our lives, we can’t help but live in gratitude for this great
gift. My husband is one of these friends for me. I thank God for him every day,
and never take for granted the fact that I have a “live in” friend! He knows my
habits, quirks, my good days, and my bad days, and chooses to love everything
about me, even when I don’t love them myself. Although he and I know each other
so well after many years of marriage, there is no way we can know every detail about
each other’s past, present, and future. There is only One who knows us so
intimately.
God knows every part of our story! The seen and unseen.
While there are parts of our story that we may be hesitant to share with those
closest to us for whatever reason, we can freely express our most intimate
thoughts to God and know that He cares. He is the only One who can take the
ugly parts of our story and rewrite it for His glory. Perhaps there were times
that we wandered from Him, or have been unkind or judgmental of the people he
has brought into our lives. Whatever the case, our transparency with God is
what will bring healing and deepen our relationship with Him.
We can come to God with our worries, anxiety, confusion,
temptations, and trials. It is when we fully surrender it all to God that we
can experience the friendship he so deeply desires with us. I encourage you to be
honest with God today, share what’s on your heart with no filter, and allow God
to lead you.
Suggested prayer: Dear God, thank you for the friends (whoever
that may be for us) that you have placed in my life who love and support me through
thick and thin. Friends like this are hard to find, so please help me never
take this blessing for granted. Thank you, Jesus, for being my truest friend
and for loving me despite the good, the bad, and the ugly in my story. Please
take that which doesn’t please you and turn it into something new for your
glory. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
