His Glorious Purpose
“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”1
About 20 years ago, Pastor and Author Rick Warren asked the age-old question, “What On Earth Am I Here For?” and presented us with a book2 that led many of us into a 40-day journey to find the answer. No doubt that even after finding the answer, we may still ask ourselves this question, because we seek a more tangible answer. Would you believe that God actually designed us to ask that very question so that we would pause and look at the world around us and ponder on His magnificence reflected in all of creation? To be able to see His hand in the innumerable stars in the night sky and the majesty of the towering mountains on the horizon. To stand in awe at the vastness of the ocean that stays perfectly in its place.
On our own we will never find the answers, but God’s Word is very clear — we are here to Glorify the God who so delicately and perfectly created us! Our purpose is to turn away from ourselves and our self-centeredness and yield our entire being to bring Glory and Honor to God Almighty. We were created to reflect the brilliance of who God is, just as the moon reflects the sun. In all of our successes, and even our failures, we’re to glorify God. In our work and in our play; in perfect health or in debilitating illness; in darkness and storm and in the warmth of the sunlight, we are to glorify God!
When you came to Christ and asked Him to be the Lord of your life, you made the decision to allow yourself to be used to point others to Jesus and His Goodness. You committed to share what He has done in you and trust Him through the toughest trials and to walk in obedience to His Will. And His Will is for you to abide in the closeness of a relationship with Him, where your soul’s purpose is to glorify Him! Could there be any greater purpose for existing than for His Glorious Purpose? He called you by name! He chose you! “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”3
Suggested Prayer: Dear Glorious God, I am humbled at the thought of being personally chosen by you to be Your child. Fill me with Your Spirit so that I may find my purpose in You and see Your glorious plan for my life. Allow my life to reflect You in a manner that it points others to You as well. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
