Standing Before The Son

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted in the earth!”1

If you got to experience this week’s total solar eclipse in person, then you were among the millions who stood in awe at its magnificence. I only got to watch it on my T.V. screen through NASA’s telescope and briefly witnessed the partial eclipse, seen in my part of the country, by way of the reflection on my kitchen window. Nevertheless, it was very exciting! On the news, reporters grew speechless and emotional at the wondrous sight. Shouts and Cheers could be heard in the background as the crowds excitedly awaited this celestial event that won’t be seen again in the United States for another 20 years. As the broadcast followed the eclipse from state to state, one thing could be noted: just as the moon began to cover the sun in its totality and the sky would begin to darken, the crowd would grow still and silent as they stood in awe and reverence gazing at the sky above. If the sun could draw that kind of wonder from us, imagine what it will be like when we stand before The Son! What wonders to behold when we stand before the Creator of the Heavens and Earth! The beloved song by MercyMe, “I Can Only Imagine” describes it well.

“... I can only imagine when that day comes and I find myself standing in the Son

I can only imagine when all I will do is forever, forever worship You…

Surrounded by Your glory what will my heart feel?

Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of You be still?

Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall?

Will I sing hallelujah? Will I be able to speak at all?....”

He said, “Be Still”. He said, “I will be exalted in the earth!” He will be the reason we stand in awe and reverence; His presence will claim our speech. His magnificence will make even the most wondrous celestial event seem dull and pale in comparison. Our God, who is worthy of all our praise and honor, will return one day and eclipse all sin and darkness with His glorious light and every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Lord, even now, being in your presence consumes me. My heart longs for the day when we shall see you face to face; to behold your Beauty and Greatness; to fall to my knees in adoration. Thank you for the promise of that day! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

1. Psalm 46:10.
