A Soft Heart
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.1
When we spend time with God in His Word, His presence will saturate our hearts, making us docile and sensitive. But just as a human relationship can grow cold unless we nurture it, the heart can slowly harden when we're not looking to spend time with God. In order for our hearts to remain soft and receptive, we must respond obediently, and promptly, to what the Lord tells us to do.
If you believe that God is leading you in a certain direction, take the time to seriously look for what He says on the matter, and listen to His answer. Then avoid engaging in something that was not what He originally called you to do. It would be tragic to work hard doing what you and others consider good, only to find that you accomplished something that was not God's intention.
Resisting the Lord is often equivalent to archiving His purposes for our lives. Which will make us feel that we are missing something. There is no substitute for God's will, even when His plan seems difficult or impossible. But when you confidently approach God with a heart willing to serve, there is no limit to what He can accomplish. So, step into obedience today and say, "Lord, I want to do Your will, no matter what."
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to be obedient to You alone. Help me to submit my desires to Your will. May everything I do be guided by your Holy Spirit. May your Word be my compass and direct my steps. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
