Silence
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”1
God has called us to a life of holiness. That makes us think about practices like reading the Bible, praying, giving, and witnessing. But there are others that are also very important, and one of them is learning to be silent.
Silence is much more than the absence of noise. In the Bible, it is closely related to peace and holiness.
The apostle Paul put it as a commandment: "Make it your goal to live a quiet life" (1 Thessalonians 4:11 NLT), in other words, let's develop the ability to be still.
Of the three types of noises: audible, mental, and emotional, the last two are the most destructive. Someone without a quiet spirit has a divided mind.
You will not be able to hear God's voice until you learn to be still in all three ways.
Inner tranquility is based on the trust that God has everything under control. That's why Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still, and know that I am God."
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, today I want to make a simple but very profound request to you. I just want to sit at Your feet. I pray that You will give peace to my restless mind, that peace that only You can give and that surpasses all understanding. Quiet my mind so I can hear you. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
