Living By the Spirit
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.1
The Holy Spirit is one of God's most precious gifts to His children. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in believers at the moment of salvation and enables them to overcome sin and live to the glory of God. However, the power of the Holy Spirit can be hindered or ignored.
Walking in the Spirit indicates trust in Him. He guides us and we follow him. When he speaks, we listen, heed his warnings, and obey his instructions. His path is a path of surrender that, although sometimes difficult, leads to the fullness of life. God's Holy Spirit not only guide us, but also empowers us, giving us all that we need to live righteously and bear fruit.
Being led by the Holy Spirit should be the natural lifestyle of all of God's children. We must seek to maintain an awareness of his presence always. As we do, He makes us sensitive to the things of God and gives us understanding about the situations and people around us.
Take a walk with the Holy Spirit today. Learn to recognize His voice by spending time in God's Word and in prayer. Focus your thoughts on Him, asking for His guidance and waiting for His direction.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the most beautiful gift You could leave us, the Holy Spirit. Thank You that through Your Spirit You enable us to live a life that honors and glorifies You. Let me be sensitive to the voice of Your Spirit every day of my life. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
