An Expression of Love

Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and the lyre, praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.1

Most of us know what it feels like to love someone. We think about him or her often, share moments together, and admiringly tell others about his or her attributes so that they know how extraordinary that person is. Simply put, we express admiration for the one we love.

In the book of Psalms, this is just how David spoke of God. His writings are filled with words of worship and sentiments such as "Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you" (Psalm 63:3). He also danced without hesitation, expressing his passion and devotion before the Lord, not caring what others thought (2 Samuel 6:14).

Do we love God with the same enthusiasm that David had? Some of us might be less prone than others to displays of fervor and excitement. But we must never allow shame or timidity to stifle our praise.

The Lord is praiseworthy. He is our Friend, our Rock, and our Protector. If we are swayed by the opinions of others, we might forget that God's point of view is the only one that matters. Since creation, the Lord has merited and received offerings of praise. Don't let fear or discomfort stop you from expressing your love and appreciation.

Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that I can praise You freely. Thank you that I can raise my hands to heaven freely and worship you. Thank you Lord, because you never tire of falling in love with me, you constantly tell me that you love me. Thank you in Jesus' name, Amen.

1.    Psalm 150:1-6 (NIV).
