A Loudspeaker for Christ

You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it.1

Imagine you are at a professional sporting event. Thousands of people shout with great enthusiasm, as if their shouts could lead their team to victory. How many believers do you know who put that same passion and intensity into their faith?

In his letter to the church in Thessalonica, the apostle Paul rejoiced in the passion they had in speaking to the world about Christ. Since the city was a seaport bustling with activity, the church captured the attention and interest of many. Travelers would hear the gospel and then take it back and share it in their communities.

Paul told the Thessalonians that the message of the Lord rang out from them (1 Thessalonians 1:8). The apostle painted a powerful picture with words. The Greek verb he used refers to a sound that is projected as a trumpet or thunder blast. So Paul commended the Thessalonians for being living speakers proclaiming Christ.

If you are a true "fan" of the Lord, then I want you to feel the commitment and responsibility to share with the world who He is and what He has done for you. Shout it from your balcony! Let his praise be heard! Do not just show the people around you who your favorite team is. Make sure they also know who your Savior is!

Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, whenever I have the opportunity, I want to praise You with all my strength and heart. What a great privilege to be able to praise and adore you in complete freedom. Thank You that I have the freedom to be able to acknowledge You as my Lord and my Savior. Give me the courage to be a loudspeaker proclaiming the love and grace of Jesus. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

1.    1 Thessalonians 1:6-8 (NIV).
