Always the Same

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.1

Superman has been a household name and a favorite superhero for over 80 years. The famed man in blue and red has been portrayed by over a dozen actors; each one preferred by its generation, often causing debate over which has been the best Superman! This legend from Krypton has filled his fans with a feel-good fictional hope of a better and safer world — key word: fictional.

In some way or another we are always on the lookout for a superhero; a savior to swoop in and save the day. Someone to bring us hope and remind us that there is still good in this world. We unknowingly encounter heroes on a daily basis and fail to realize it, so it is no surprise that for over 2000 years, this world has failed to notice the ultimate Superhero we have always had among us — our God and Savior, Jesus Christ! But do not take my word for it; the Bible says it!

He is Powerful: Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure. (Ps. 147:5)

He is Strong: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Ps. 46:1)

He Sees All: The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. (Pr. 15:3)

He Hears All: And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. (1Jn. 5:14)

He is a Helper:  So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” (Heb. 13:6)

He is our Savior: And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. (1 Jn. 4:14)

He is Forever the Same: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Heb. 13:8)

Truly a superhero for the ages, Jesus came to us, not in a flashy costume but in grace, offering forgiveness and hope to a lost world. He came to be our Savior!

Suggested prayer: Almighty God, I stand in awe of your Greatness and Your unfailing love toward an undeserving world. Thank you for rescuing me from a life of darkness and showing me Your Light. I love you Lord. Amen.

1.    Hebrews 13:8.
