True Freedom in Christ
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."1
In frustration, the young man said: "I feel trapped... Like a bird tied to a short rope. I want to be free, but that doesn't seem possible."
Many believers feel trapped like this man. For years they have been bound by old habits, feelings, or physical addictions that God never intended them to carry.
One of the first steps to freedom from slavery is acceptance. You must accept God's personal love for you. No matter what your circumstances, the Lord Jesus loves you.
The second step is to ask God to cleanse you from any sin. Forgiveness of others is also a key factor. Until you forgive those who have hurt you, you will never experience true freedom.
A third step is to be honest with God about your feelings and weaknesses. If you've been disappointed, tell Him. He cares and wants you to know that you can bring anything to Him in prayer.
The final step toward freedom is to ask God to help you see your situation from His perspective. God is your closest Friend. He promises to care for you and provide for your deepest needs. Ask Him to reveal His love for you and the favor you have in Christ.
Do you crave genuine freedom? Express that desire to God.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to know true freedom, even in areas where I am not aware of my bondage. Show me what I need to confess and change. I long to know you more. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
