Eternal Life - A Real Promise
Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.1
Our society is fascinated by longevity. While desiring a long life is natural, the Bible encourages us to remember that our mortal existence is not all there is.
No pill or diet can extend our days beyond the number God has ordained. But we can live forever in a perfect home by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and trusting Him as our Savior, then we receive the gift of eternal life.
Although we are promised a place in heaven, the life we experience now or later has nothing to do with location. The true value is that we are and will always be in the presence of God. We will be completely healed and forever with the One who loves us beyond our imagination.
1 John 5:1 tells us, "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well." Verse 12 expands on that concept: "He who has the Son has life, he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." It is through Him that we have the promise of eternity (Romans 6:23).
Reaching a healthy old age is a laudable goal, but nothing is more important than receiving the Savior and enjoying what is to comeāthe gift of living forever in His presence.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, what a beautiful promise you offer us giving us eternal life. Because of Your unconditional love for mankind, You sent Your Son Jesus to Earth so that everyone who believes in Him will no longer perish have eternal life. Thank you for such a precious gift. Help me to treasure it in my heart to live a life that honors and glorifies you. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
