Good Morning God
"The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."1
When praying for God's guidance, do you ever feel that your prayers are not rising above the ceiling? Or do you sometimes find it difficult to concentrate because your mind wanders all over the "wilderness" as it were?
It is true that (whether we feel it or not) God does hear our prayers when they come from the heart. As the old ditty says: "I often say my prayers / but do I really pray / and does the meaning of my heart / go with the words I say?" God doesn't always answer our prayers in the way we want, but he always answers them in one way or another. Let's also remember the importance of praying according to God's will and not our own. We may think we know what we need, but he can see the bigger picture and knows for certain what we need, not only for the moment, but for the future.
There have been times when I have so much going on in my head that I can't organize my thoughts, and much less organize my words. In those moments I sit in silence and simply say, "Here I am God. Please hear my heart." Other times it has been helpful to write my prayers in a journal and read them to God. Whatever it is that works best for you in the moment, do it. God just wants to hear from you.
Today's suggested prayer is an example: "Good morning, God, it's... (your name). Thank you for your promise that you always hear my prayers when I pray sincerely from my heart. I want to do your will today and make a difference in someone's life. Whether it be through word or deed, please guide me in the way that I should go and put me where I need to be. I am available so please use me to be 'as Jesus' in some way to every life I touch. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. Gratefully, in Jesus' name, amen."
1. Psalm 145:18.
