Let The Dead Leaves Fall
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”1
Autumn is a wonderful time to stop and observe nature. It is a great reminder of change as we watch the leaves on the trees go from being a vibrant green to beautiful shades of yellow and orange. Many children greatly look forward to Autumn so they can jump in big piles of leaves that have fallen from the trees! The trees follow the Creator’s design as they let go of their dead leaves and get ready to flourish in the coming seasons.
Just like these trees don’t stubbornly hold on to their dead leaves, we should also be ready and willing to let go of the “dead leaves” in our lives. Romans 12:2 tells us, “…but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” It is easy to get comfortable with our current mentality, but we should always be open to the new things God wants to do, especially when it comes to Him healing us and taking away all that may be holding us back from flourishing.
Take a moment to spend time in God’s Word, allow His Spirit to show you what changes need to be made, be willing to let go of the “dead leaves” such as bitterness and anger, and ask God to heal you where needed. God has great plans for you and desires to see you fulfill your purpose. Don’t let the past hinder the blessings that can come in the new season.
Suggested prayer: Dear God, please shine your light on any “dead leaves” in my life that hindering me from growing and flourishing. I ask that you renew my spirit and make me usable for your glory. Thank you for the opportunity to begin a fresh relationship with you once again. In Jesus’ name, amen.
