A Time for Everything
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:"1
Our culture is desperately trying to postpone death. Vitamins, exercise and good nutrition, we do this to live as long as possible and have quality of life. None of these things are bad, however, our motivation is the key.
For example, knowing that our bodies are God's temple (1 Corinthians 3:16), we should care for His dwelling place. On the other hand, if we try to live longer because we are afraid of dying, then that is not from God. His Word teaches us that fear is not from Him (2 Timothy 1:7). Since the Lord Jesus died in our place, those of us who trust Him as our Savior need not fear death. In fact, the apostle Paul assures us that, far from being a scary step, physical death actually brings believers to our heavenly home to be with the Lord forever (2 Corinthians 5:8).
In light of these truths, it is wise for you to be prepared. The first step is to make sure you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Then live a life surrendered to Him and strive to walk according to His will. Since it is an inevitable fact that life in this world is temporary, ask yourself: How can I live to be ready when God decides the time has come?
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus, for because of Him I have eternal hope. Allow me to take care of my body, but without obsessing and help me to have a genuine motivation by taking care of myself to live a life that honors and glorifies you. My desire is to do your will until the day you call me home. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
