Saved by Grace
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast."1
Many people believe that by accumulating good works they can be right with God. However, when it comes to sin, death is the only payment that can satisfy divine justice (Romans 6:23). Since we all sin, we face eternity apart from God. But grace, the expression of divine love and goodness toward those who do not deserve it, made Christ the solution. According to John 6:29, the only "work" we have to do is believe. The Savior's death gave us:
New life. Our spirit comes alive in Christ the moment we recognize that we are sinners and believe that His death paid our sin debt in full.
Freedom. At the moment of salvation, sin's power over us is broken and we are freed from its dominion. Now we can exercise our newfound freedom and follow the Lord.
Safety. When we accept that we are sinners and recognize our Savior's sacrifice as payment for all our faults, we are forever adopted into God's family to spend eternal life with Him.
God, the One against whom we rebel, sent His Son to receive the punishment that was justly due to us. How will you thank the Lord for His saving grace?
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to love you more. I am so thankful for Your Son Jesus and I bow my head longing for a deeper, more intimate understanding of Your ways and Your will. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
