Walking by Faith
Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.1
We often hear the word faith. However, when a word is used frequently, it can become so familiar that we become immune to its grand meaning. So today, let us consider what faith really entails.
Everybody has faith. For example, it takes a degree of confidence in a kitchen chair to sit in it without first testing its strength. But believing that furniture will support our weight is very different from trusting our lives to God.
So what is the biblical definition of faith? In Hebrews 11:1, we read that it is "confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." And we know that without faith it is impossible to please the Lord. In fact, there is nothing we can do to earn salvation, the only way to get to heaven is by believing in the sacrificial death of Christ on the cross, who paid the penalty we owed for our sin. Furthermore, faith is not something we can create within us, the Bible is clear that it is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8).
Have you accepted the gift of faith in God and begun the wonderful journey that you are invited to share with Him? If you are not sure that you have given your life to the Lord with full confidence, ask Him to guide you and reveal His truth to you.
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask your forgiveness because sometimes my faith is very weak. Thank you, Lord, that with you I can be honest. You have shown me that it does not matter how big my faith is, but who that faith is in. Thank You that I can trust You completely, knowing that Your plans for my life are far better than I can even imagine. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
