Watch Patiently
But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.1
From craft projects to recipes, hair styles and fix and repair, you can find a video or reel on almost any topic imaginable. You can find yourself scrolling on your phone until something catches your interest and then you watch with a keen eye to see if you will be able to mimic the activity. Some of these short tutorials, however, are a little too thorough in their instruction for my taste and I often find myself losing patience at the process and speeding up the video because I am more eager to see how it will turn out. However, whenever I do take the time to watch the instruction, I am able to see the important steps I might have missed in my rush to see it done.
We are often like this with God. He has laid out His plan for us, step by step, highlighting all of the important parts. We can see where we have made mistakes, but we are still eager to jump ahead to see how His promises will unfold. We want to speed through the details of our spiritual life and want maturity and His will fulfilled immediately without listening to the instructions. Fortunately for us, God is not controlled by our impatience and He is willing to repeat the details of His will again and again until we understand that it is indeed His will and not ours.
When God began his good work in each of us, He promised to see it through till the very end (Phil. 1:6) and to be with us each step of the way (Deut. 31:6). Our confidence comes from our patience in the waiting. So be eagerly patient for what His plans are for you. Confidently listen to all of His instructions and be ready to mimic the Savior. Watch patiently and see the wonder of the will of God for you.
Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, I know that the end of each of the lessons you are teaching me will end in something incredible and beautiful. I ask forgiveness for my impatience. Thank you for being patient with me and for knowing exactly how it will all turn out. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
