Restore My Soul
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.1
I often find myself (usually late at night after all have gone to bed) going over the day’s events in my mind; and all too often, I find myself wishing I’d done things differently. There are days when I truly feel that I’ve taken all of the Lord’s blessings for granted and that I’ve completely let Him down. And in true “prodigal son” fashion, I find myself regretting my decisions and longing to be back in my Father’s good graces. And so, I begin to pray. The Lord frequently brings the words of this worship song to heart:
Lord, You know that I've been foolish, I've been blind;
I've let my doubts and my confusions cloud my mind.
I think of how I let my pride get in the way; how many times I “put my foot in my mouth”. Sometimes I will get in the shower and wish that the hot water would just wash away all of my mistakes and allow me to emerge clean and new.
I have walked in my own wisdom; I've been wrong
Take my hand and lead me back where I belong
I close my eyes and ask God for another chance to do things better. I ask Him to give me opportunities to share His Love with others and allow me to be the best version of myself — the one He created me to be.
Stripped of all that once I clung to, Lord, I come
Tho' in your eyes I know I'm nothing, yet I come
Then, in “Good Father” fashion, the Lord lovingly reminds me that he’s already forgiven me; that His death on the cross gave me the clean slate I long for. And as I allow the tears to swell my eyes, I feel His arms gently comfort me, restoring me for His glory.
With your hand that once was nail-scarred just for me,
Touch me now and make me all that I should be
When I am at my weakest, God is my Strength. When I am at my saddest, He is my Joy. He Heals my hurts and comforts me. He is all I need!
Suggested Prayer: Almighty God, Restore my soul in the valley, that I might be worthy at last to stand with Thee on the top of the mountain; In the valley, restore my soul.2 In Jesus’ name, Amen.
