Important Words
“Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”1
It’s been said that the six most important words in communications and human relations are “I admit that I was wrong”. Counting down, the five most important words are “You did a great job”. The four most important words are “What do you think?” The three most important words are “May I help?” The two most important words are “Thank you”. The most important word is “we” and the least important word in any language is “I”.2
Teamwork is something that is taught in every organized sport growing up. We are taught to support our teammates and allow them to work alongside us to reach a common goal. But as we get older, we sometimes forget or lose practice in this area. Instead of being a supportive and encouraging presence for others, we often become judgmental of others’ actions and effort and choose to work alone thinking we could do it better on our own. However, this was never God’s design. He created us to be in community with others and work together to further His work here on earth.
As you go about your day, be intentional about edifying others. It may not always be reciprocated at first, but it has to start somewhere!
Suggested prayer: Dear God, forgive me for the times that I have selfishly chosen to work alone because of pride. Thank you for those you have put in my life and the talents they possess. I pray that you help me be a team player when it comes to serving You. Thank you for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
