Fear
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."1
We all experience fear at some point, but when it's an ongoing struggle it can have long-term effects. Here are some ways it can hurt our lives and the lives of others.
Fear...
Paralyzes thoughts and actions. It creates indecision that results in stagnation. Missed opportunities cause a drain on confidence, and the downward spiral begins.
Can be an obstacle to God's plans for us. If we give in to negative emotions and insecurity, we will not be able to achieve the goals He has for us.
Can lead to destructive habits. To numb the pain of overwhelming distress, some turn to destructive habits for temporary, artificial relief.
Robs us of peace and contentment. When we always feel fear, our life is centered on pessimism and sadness.
Creates doubts. God promises a joyful life, but if we live in fear, we will most likely not experience the abundance He offers, because the fear in our hearts has distracted our focus.
Our Heavenly Father feeds the birds of the air and clothes the grass with the splendor of lilies. How much more, then, will he take care of you and me, who are made in his image?
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, today I want to place in your hands every fear that haunts my life. I ask your forgiveness because sometimes I have let myself be carried away more by uncertainty than by your promises. Help me remember that you take care of me and my family, every day. Help me to keep my gaze focused on you and not on the circumstances in front of me. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
