To Each Their Season
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.1
Did you know that spring is the most popular season? It’s not hard to figure out why: the weather is enjoyable and comfortable, the plant life is blooming… there’s just so much to love about this season. People tend to dislike the “too cold” or “too hot” seasons. Everyone wants to live in the “just right”, but each season has its importance, for nature just as much as for humans, although in a different way.
“We learned that there was a season to plant, a season to water, and a season to harvest. The planting and watering could be laborious, but without those stages, there would never be a harvest.” — John Wooden
In the same way that a farmer knows exactly how to tend his crops, likewise, God knows exactly what we need to grow. Perhaps the seasons in our life where things feel cold and dark, or the situations seem too hot and we are burning up, are the seasons where God is watering us and tending to us in the ways that only He knows we need to be tended. Remaining strong and continuing to do what is good is hard work, especially when we begin to doubt whether it matters.
We will go through different seasons in life. We look forward to the good ones, but when the rough, uncomfortable seasons come, we must remember that they are not in vain. The season of harvest will come, but we need to do our part as well by accepting that what God is doing in our lives is for our good, even if it is uncomfortable or difficult to bear.
Suggested Prayer: God, thank you for your constant care and for tending to me so that I might continue to grow in you. Help me to stand firm in your truth so that I can live a life devoted to you and others can learn about you through me. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
