Celebrate!

Out of them shall come songs of thanksgiving, and the voices of those who celebrate. I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will make them honored, and they shall not be small.1

Throughout the Old (and New) Testament, God instructed His people to celebrate — Harvest feasts, Passover, crossing seas and deserts, building walls, victory in battle, release from exile, and family homecoming, to name a few. God even told them when, where, and how! He wanted singing and music, food and fellowship; and He wanted these celebrations to be made tradition so that generations to come would remember God’s goodness and continue to celebrate.

God created the joy, excitement, and wonder that comes with celebrating. When others see us celebrating all that God has done and given us, we can use that joy to point others to Him. And the good news is that there is ALWAYS a reason to celebrate! Whether it’s the celebration of a new life or a life gone to be with the Lord, a new year or a new love, starting an adventure or reaching your goals, the Birth of our Savior or His Resurrection, each opportunity is a celebration in honor of the One who gave us life; and that in itself is worth celebrating! The happiness of this world may not last, but the joy we can take from each moment is eternal.

So, as you hang each light and wrap each gift this season, take a moment to pray for each person that will be reached by your act of celebration. Let this season of celebration lead to a renewed commitment to God that can be passed down from generation to generation.

Suggested prayer: Dear Lord, You are Great and Loving, Merciful and Kind; I have every reason to celebrate Your goodness every day! Allow my celebration to be a light and a compass that leads others to You. Let Your Joy be my Joy and that the Love I share be Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
