“Daughter,” He said to her, “your faith has saved you. Go
in peace and be healed from your affliction.”1
If you’ve ever met a “people person” chances are that they
remembered your name after the first time meeting you and it’s a good feeling!
When a person remembers your name, it makes you feel honored and important.
Today’s scripture refers to the story of the woman who had
suffered an illness for twelve years and after being seen by many doctors over
many years, she had just about lost all hope. Then one day, she heard a
commotion outside her window. Jesus was passing by and she knew at once that
her hope had arrived. She mustered up as much strength as she possibly could,
for she was very weak, and followed the crowd until she reached Jesus. But her
strength gave out, and as she reached for Jesus, she fell briefly touching the
hem of his garment. Jesus, feeling this stopped, and turned around looking for
the source that had captured his attention. He saw the woman on the floor with
a look of surprise (for she had felt her body being healed instantly) and calls
her “Daughter”! How special she must have felt! It wasn’t “Lady” or “Woman” it
was “Daughter”! He immediately made it personal and I can imagine how important
that made the woman feel. The woman had opened her heart to Jesus and her faith
had healed her. Not only that, but she was instantly made a daughter of God.
Isaiah 43:1 says, …"Do not fear, for I have redeemed
you; I have called you by your name; you are mine.” Those of us that have
opened our hearts to Jesus have the honor of being called His children, and he
knows each one of us by name. King David said it best: “When I consider
your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have
set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them and human beings
that you care for them?” (Psalm 8: 3-4) God cares for us because we are a part
of His creation and if today someone should forget your name, know that God
knows it and he holds it in utmost esteem. God is a “people person” and it is
His desire to know each of our names. All we must do is meet Him. And the next
time you talk to Him, you can be sure that He will remember your name.
Suggested Prayer:
Lord Jesus, you are the creator of all things great and
small and yet you care for me too! I am so humbled at the thought of you
knowing me by name, and more than that, that you call me your child. Thank you
for making room for all of us to be a part of your family. I love you, Lord. In
Jesus’ name, Amen.
