“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we
affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.”1
Every
year at Summer Camp, each cabin was required to go through a Ropes Course, a
series of obstacles meant for teambuilding and trust. Ten girls approached the
challenges with caution, some obstacles easy and others quite difficult. The
last feat to conquer was the dreaded Trust Fall. Here one girl climbed a
4-to-5-foot post and stood straight with her back turned toward her cabinmates
waiting below, with arms intertwined, ready to catch her. The girl atop the
post was to let herself fall back and trust her mates to catch her mid-fall.
Trusting in others is not something that comes naturally to human nature.
Throughout
this series, we have seen that God's promises are true and he is never failing.
We have learned that we can trust in God to be our provider, our planner, and
our caretaker. Trusting in God is not always easy. It is hard to trust what we
cannot see. As the girl stands atop the post with her back turned to her
friends, she cannot see them. This makes it all the more difficult to let
herself fall while not being able to see where she will land. Our faith allows
us to trust God without seeing him. He has proved himself trustworthy over and
over again. Hebrews tells us to hold tight without wavering to the hope
that is God himself. We are encouraged to trust that God will keep His promises
to us. Ask God to help you trust him today. Allow Him to prove Himself mighty
to you as our God and Creator.
Suggested
Prayer:
Dear
God, you have been so good to me in keeping your promises to guide and protect me.
I ask that you draw me close to you and grant me the desire to seek your will
in all I do. Thank you for your mercy and your love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Hebrews 10:23.
