The Trials in Our Lives

"In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith â€" of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire â€" may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls."1

Some people have the wrong idea about being a Christian. Once they accept the Lord as their Savior, they expect everything to go smoothly. However, Christ made it clear that we will all face problems. He was no exception: he suffered false accusations, rejection and betrayal.

As his followers, we can also expect difficulties in this life. Some problems arise from the fallen nature of the world, while others are the result of spiritual warfare, and we can also cause our own suffering through ignorance or sin. However, sometimes God Himself allows these trials. Although it is difficult to accept, the Lord never allows difficulties unless He has a beautiful purpose, and He always gives us the strength to endure.

Remember that God allows struggles for our benefit. Perhaps they are to purify us and prepare us to serve Him. Perhaps it is testing our endurance and devotion, or it could be revealing His sustaining power. In this world, we may never know the cause or purpose of every challenge. But we can trust in God's ability to save us and make us mature.

What trials do you face? Christ understands your pain and longs to be the One you cling to in good times and bad.

Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, today, let me remember that you allow trials in my life for a divine purpose. Let me remember this when life feels heavy and I'm feeling overwhelmed. Thank You, Lord, that through trials, You reveal Your sustaining power. Lord let me hold on to You, in good times and bad, and always remember that Your grace is sufficient. I pray in Jesus' precious name, Amen.
