One
person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes
to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be
refreshed.1
Generosity
is the attitude of joyfully sharing what we have, regardless of our abundance.
The Bible reveals that generosity is an attribute of God (Deuteronomy 28:12).
And as part of His transformative plan for believers, the Father wants us to
cultivate a generous spirit.
A
generous approach to our time and material goods begins by giving ourselves to
God. When we accept that He owns everything, we will be able to more easily
detach ourselves from our possessions. But the decision to cultivate generosity
is based on trust. Hebrews 13:16 NIV tells us, "And do not forget to do
good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."
The
Lord responds by supplying what is necessary to meet what we will give to
others and our own needs (Luke 6:38). Only by giving do we learn that we can
never surpass God in generosity.
Let us
choose to cultivate a generous spirit for the Lord always.
Suggested
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, help me to have a generous attitude to share with
joy what You have given me. Teach me to cultivate a generous spirit to honor
and glorify you. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
