And I
will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be
with you forever â€" the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it
neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and
will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.1
Loneliness
will infiltrate our lives at some point. However, as believers, we are never
alone because God has given us a constant companion: the Holy Spirit.
None
of us can promise, without reservation, to be always available. The realities
of time, distance, and occupations of daily life can separate people. However,
by sending the Holy Spirit to live in us, Christ fulfills His promise to never
leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
Human
beings were not created to live alone. God designed us to be complete only when
the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us at the moment of our salvation. However,
there are those who choose to ignore the Holy Spirit without realizing it. For
example, when they try to persevere in the faith in their own strength or stop
reading God's Word. That kind of person is characterized by being
discontented: their peace is ephemeral, and their loneliness will feel like a
permanent resident of their heart.
The
Holy Spirit is our parakletos, or companion who "is called to help and console
us." If we keep it away, we also turn away from the Father. But if we ask
the Holy Spirit to guide our steps and open our minds to God's plans, He will
support and encourage us in ways we can't even imagine.
Suggested
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for leaving us the Helper, the
Comforter. Thank You that we are never alone, as Your Holy Spirit always guides
us, directs us, and consoles us. Help me be aware of Your presence at all times
so that I can give comfort and encouragement to others as well. I pray in Jesus'
name, Amen.
