Walking by Faith

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.1

The Lord's desire is that we walk by faith. However, we all have areas in life where we find it difficult to trust Him. Happily, our Heavenly Father is patient and merciful. His Word clearly teaches that sanctification is the process of making us holy, not just the end result. Children are a great illustration of how this works. When children learn to walk, they start by grabbing onto something, standing up, and then taking a step. At first, they inevitably fall, at which point we help them get up so they can keep moving forward. Likewise, God shows us how to live according to our faith in Him, but we will make mistakes. Falling and getting up again is part of the learning process.

The Holy Spirit teaches us, but our responsibility is to study the Bible to know the nature of God and to know His promises. As we do these things, our trust in the Lord grows and we lean more heavily on Him.

Think about the responses, actions, and decisions you've made over the past few days. How many of them were led by the Holy Spirit? Living based on trust in Christ requires faith and action. As you allow Him to guide you, your faith will increase.

Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that you are leading us through Your Holy Spirit. Help me to intentionally seek to spend time alone with You in prayer and studying Your Word. Help me to trust in You alone in the most uncertain moments, knowing that faith is the certainty of what is hoped for and the conviction of what is not seen. I pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
