All Scripture
is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training
in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for
every good work.1
In
biblical times, God spoke in many remarkable ways. Although he still speaks
today, some of his methods have changed. He does not speak with an audible
voice or send an angel every time he has something to say to us.
The
primary way our Father speaks to us today is through His written Word. His Holy
Spirit breathed divine truth into the minds of certain men and inspired them to
write it perfectly. (2 Timothy 3:16). Nothing is missing.
The
Bible is God's way of speaking to our pressing needs, anxieties, and
worries. When trouble comes, we often turn to other sources, perhaps
talking to a friend or counselor. All of that is good and helpful, and it is
true that the Father speaks through consecrated believers. But the first
resource we should consult is His Word. If you pick up the Bible only when you
have a question or an emergency, you will never understand the full message of
what God wants to say to you.
The
Bible is a treasure trove of God's thoughts. Spend time there every day,
looking for new realities and insights.
Suggested
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for leaving us Your heart and thoughts
in the Bible. Beloved Father, help me run into Your presence in times of
affliction and to consult Your Word with any doubts or uncertainties that arise
in my life. Your Word is a light unto my feet. Thank you in Jesus' name, Amen.
