But the Helper, the Holy
Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and
bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.1
One of the most painful
feelings is loneliness. Of course, there are times when it is inevitable to be
alone. But because God has sent his Spirit to live in us, we are never truly
alone. The Holy Spirit, whom Christ referred to as our Helper (John 14:26) is
with us every second of every day.
Think about the ways the
Spirit of God helps us in our prayer life. First, he motivates us to pray. Have
you ever felt a strong sense that you needed to spend time with the Lord,
without knowing why? That is the Spirit that is encouraging us. He has many
reasons for doing so: he knows when we need strength in the face of an
approaching difficulty. Or sometimes He encourages us to confess sin so that
our fellowship with the Father is not hindered.
Second, the Holy Spirit
intercedes for us. There are times when we do not know how to pray. For
example, when sadness or helplessness overwhelm us to the point that it is
impossible for us to speak, even to the Lord. When all we can do is cry out to
the Lord, the Holy Spirit will intercede on our behalf.
What a great privilege
it is to have the Spirit of God dwelling in our hearts!
Suggested Prayer: Dear
Heavenly Father, thank you once again for leaving the Helper with us. It
comforts me greatly to know that I am not alone, and to know that Your Holy
Spirit is always there to help me, to guide me, and to comfort me. All I have
to do is be aware of His presence in me and cry out to Him. Thank You, Lord,
that Your Spirit intercedes for me when I do not know what to say. Thank you,
in Jesus' name, Amen.

14:26 (NKJV).
