If You forgive those who
sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.1
Forgiving someone is one
of the hardest things we can do. When someone has sinned against you and hurt
your heart deeply, it may seem like you will never forgive them for what they
have done. It feels like there is too much pain and hate to forgive them now.
However, God calls us to be forgiving and to not hold grudges. In Matthew
6:14-15, Jesus tells us, “If you forgive those who sin against you, your
heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your
Father will not forgive your sins.” This is a perfect example of treating
others the way you want to be treated.
If we search deeper in
ourselves, we will realize that we have sinned against God a lot; similar to
how that person may have sinned against you. However, if we search deeper into
who God is, we will see that He has forgiven us for all of our
unforgivable sins. Since we are called to be like God and have a Christ-like
attitude, should we not forgive others? Yes, we should forgive others just how
God has forgiven us. Although it may take some time for your heart to heal and
be able to forgive that person, it is very much possible to reach that point of
true forgiveness when you have Jesus walking with you and guiding you. The best
part of forgiving others is that the weight of unforgiveness will be lifted and
we will be free to love and move on. We will also be forgiven by our Heavenly
Father just as He says. With Him, you will have the strength to forgive,
give grace, and put those hard feelings behind you.
Suggested prayer: Dear
Heavenly Father, thank you for forgiving me and giving me the strength to
forgive others. Whenever I feel like it is impossible to forgive someone,
please remind me that you have already forgiven me and are helping me forgive
that person. Please give me a heart of love, mercy, compassion, and forgiveness
towards others. In Your precious name I pray, Amen.
