Moses said to the Lord, Pardon your servant, Lord. I
have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your
servant. I am slow of speech and tongue. The Lord said to him, Who gave human
beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes
them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go, I will help you speak and will teach
you what to say. But Moses said, Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send
someone else.1
Doubt is destructive. It fills us with uncertainty, makes us
indecisive, and affects our ability to walk with God. We know that doubt is at
work when we find it difficult to believe that:
God always loves us. His love for us does not fluctuate with
our behavior. We can be sure of this because, God demonstrates his own
love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). That is amazing grace: God loves us, even though we rebel against
Him.
God has a plan to forgive us. We know that the Heavenly
Father promises to forgive us when we confess our sins, but we often have
trouble believing that we have been forgiven. That is why we should not let
feelings determine whether something is true or not. The Word of God is true,
saying, As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our
transgressions from us (Psalm 103:12).
God has called us to serve Him. He often invites us to join
in His work, but doubt could cause us, like Moses, to make excuses for not
obeying (Exodus 4:10). However, God promises to provide us with what is
necessary (Ephesians 2:10).
The opposite of doubt is faith. Which best describes you?
Suggested Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask your
forgiveness because I often get carried away by doubt. Doubt limits my vision
of what You can do in any situation, no matter how difficult it may seem. Help
me to focus on what You have already done and what You are still doing, and not on
what I can do. I pray that my faith in You will be greater than any doubt, in the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
