I have told you
these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have
trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.1
A new believer
complained about the lack of consistency in her life just weeks after her
salvation. "If I am a believer, why do I still have so many problems?"
she asked herself sincerely. Whether we are new believers or veterans in the
faith, we will find spiritual cycles, times when we are up and times when we are
down.
The Lord Jesus was
realistic when He described the kind of difficult experiences His disciples
would face (and that includes us). I have told you these things, so that
in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart!
I have overcome the world. (John 16:33)
If you are in the midst
of unsettling circumstances, do not be discouragedâ€"so are many others. In those
moments, we maintain contentment and stability through our constant,
unchanging, and abiding relationship with Jesus Christ.
Hold fast to Jesus in
constant fellowship, bringing all your needs and fears to Him. He is the
Helmsman of your soul, and your safety and peace are in His firm hands.
God wants you to share
with Him what is in your heart.
The Bible reminds us
that our help comes from God:
Psalm 34:19
Isaiah 40:29
Romans 5:3-4
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Suggested Prayer: Dear
Heavenly Father, when the burdens of life feel overwhelming and heavy, help me
to remember that You have overcome the world. Be my peace in the storm and my
strength when I am weak. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
1. John 16:33 (NIV).
