Show me your
ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you
are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.1
On the path of
life, decisions are like intersections and we must choose where to go. If we
move forward without seeking Christ, the path we choose can lead us to pain and
trouble (Matthew 7:13-14). Although the Lord is ready and willing to offer
direction, He does not always give it when, or in the way we expect.
Sometimes, this
is because He wants to get our attention. When all goes well, we might be
tempted to forget about Him. But uncertainty draws us back to God like a
magnet. As we align our steps with His and in submission to the Spirit, we open
our ears to hear His voice.
Our waiting
period is God’s time of preparation. He may be coordinating events to align
them with His will. Sometimes, He has work to do on us before we can handle
what He has in store for our future. Waiting helps us strengthen ourselves
spiritually. If we received His direction instantly, we would rarely have the
opportunity to put our faith into practice.
If impatience
tempts you to get ahead of the Lord’s time, you run the risk of stepping
outside of His will and missing out on His blessings. But if you wait until He
gives clear direction, you will walk in His peace with certainty.
Suggested
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, in the time of waiting, help me to accept Your
will. I know You are working, maybe not as I want or expect, but You are still
in control. Thank You, Lord, that I can use the time of waiting to grow closer
to You, to strengthen our relationship, and to know You more. In the name of
Jesus I pray, Amen.
